MCA STCW Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities

Course Overview: To give basic training in safety procedures and accident prevention and to familiarise personnel with the working environment onboard merchant vessels.
Cost: £95

This half day course is designed to form one part of the STCW Basic Safety Training Week. Approval is MCA to STCW 95, A-V1/1-4.
This course aims to provide the skills and knowledge required to join a new yacht or ship and understand emergency procedures and accident prevention as well as social responsibilities such as effective communication, team work and an understanding of your rights.

You will learn about basic onboard familiarisation, muster stations, ship specific emergency procedures and your role in an emergency. You will also be taught care for the environment including your role in reducing marine pollution. Time will be spent discussing how an effective crew works including the importance of good human relations and effective routes of communication and the ability to handle conflict resolution techniques. 

Teaching methods:  Mixture of lectures, discussions and video

Assessment methods:  Students are assessed by a mixture of questioning and answers throughout the course to ensure underpinning of knowledge 

Itinerary:  0830 until approximately 1215
